Honoring Vietnam Veterans at Half-Time
Columbus, Georgia: When the Silver Wings jump into Doughboy Stadium at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, they will deliver not only the game ball, but also an official test strike of the 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar. The one-of-a-kind prototype of this commemorative coin will be used for the coin toss in the second Doughboy classic, pitting the Fort Benning Doughboys against the Columbus State University Cougars. The game starts at 7 p.m.

Soldiers in period uniform will then deliver the coin to Marv Levy, WWII Veteran and former Buffalo Bills head coach who led his team to four straight Super Bowl appearances. Levy and the two teams’ captains will use the special silver dollar for the official coin toss.

About the 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar
The limited-edition commemorative coin illustrating the courage, pride, sacrifice, sense of duty, and history of the United States Infantry will be available early next year. No more than 350,000 coins will be produced and they will be available only during 2012. The price will depend on the value of silver at the time of production. A portion of the proceeds will go to support the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center.

Representatives of the US Mint and the National Infantry Foundation will be on-hand at the game to answer any questions. Coin literature will be available in the stands as well as at our booth outside the stadium. To contact us directly regarding the coin, email:

About the Game
Though recently resurrected after a hiatus lasting several decades, Doughboy football dates back to 1918. The original coaching staff includes a young Infantry captain named Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The Doughboy Bowl is the annual contest against Fort Benning's cross-town rivals, the Columbus State University Cougars. Kick-Off is at 7:00pm, with pre-game tailgate activities including bounce houses for kids and a wide variety of vendors. The team has called for a Black Out game, so all Fort Benning fans are encouraged to wear black to show your support. The half-time show will honor all veterans of the Vietnam War.

You can learn more about Doughboys football on Fort Benning FMWR's website or through the official Fort Benning Facebook page.
